Whole Wheat Machine Bread


  • 3 T olive oil
  • just over 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole-wheat flour
  • 1 T gluten (I have often omitted this and it’s turned out fine)
  • 1/8 cup regular oats
  • 1/8 cup oat bran
  • 1/8 cup wheat germ
  • 1/8 cup cornmeal
  • 1/8 cup toasted pumpkin seeds
  • 1/8 cup flax seed meal
  • 1/8 cup sunflower seeds
  • 1 T sesame seeds
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup flax seeds
  • 1 1/2 tsp instant yeast
Directions will vary according to your bread machine and how you prefer your bread (i.e. crispy crust etc).  A tip I’ve always been told is add all the liquid ingredients first, then add your salt followed by all the other ingredients excluding the yeast, which should be added last (far away from the salt).
